tattoo aftercare- irezumi ink

Because your skin deserves a legendary healing arc.

Your new tattoo isn’t just ink- it’s art, and it deserves proper care from day one. Whether it’s your first piece or your fiftieth, follow this guide to help your tattoo heal beautifully and stay vibrant for years to come.

On the day- what to expect

Once your sessions is done, we’ll wrap your tattoo with either:

Cling film (traditional method), or

Medical grade second skin (like dermalize, saniderm, etc.)

Both are designed to protect your fresh tattoo from bacteria, friction, and overexposure during those early healing hours,

Cling film instructions

If we used cling film:

  1. Remove after 1-2 hours.
  2. Gently wash your tattoo with warm water and fragrance-free, gentle soap (like simple or dove)
  3. Pat dry with clean kitchen roll ( not a towel)
  4. Let it air dry for about 10 minutes
  5. Apply a thin layer of unscented aftercare balm (we recommend inkdoctor or proper)
  6. Repeat 2x daily for the next 10-14 days

Second skin instructions

If we used a second skin bandage:

  1. Leave it on for 24-72 hours (depending on fluid build up- we’ll tell you!)
  2. Gently peel off under warm water- don’t rip it
  3. Wash with gentle, fragrance free soap
  4. Let it dry completely
  5. Apply a very thin layer of aftercare balm
  6. Moisturise lightly 1-2x daily until fully healed (about 2 weeks)

Do not reapply a second skin unless advised.

What not to do

  • Don’t pick, scratch, or peel scabs or flakes
  • Dont soak your tattoo- no baths, swimming, saunas, or hot tubs
  • No fake tan, scented lotions or heavy creams
  • Avoid tight or running clothing over the area
  • Don’t expose your tattoo to direct sunlight while healing

Healing timeline

Stage.                    What to expect

Days 1-3.               Soreness, redness, oozing is normal

Days 4-7.               Peeling/ flaking begins- don’t pick!

Week 2.                  Itchy? It’s healing. Stay moisturised

Week 3-4.             Skin looks dry or dull- totally normal

Month 1+.              Fully healed surface- deeper layers may still be repairing

Healing may vary based on placement, size, style, and your individual skin.

In a world of copy paste, tattoos are the ultimate custom setting.
